Special children require special needs and sometimes those needs cannot be fulfilled by humans. Instead, a reliable companion can help address such needs. Garett Tingum had developmental delays when he was one-years-old. At 19 months he was diagnosed with severe autism. He also had mild cerebral palsy, apraxia, which disables his motor skills and pica, which has him want to eat paper or sand.
A service dog from Tender Loving Canines named Ruby helped change things. The therapy dog had a calming presence and Ruby locates Garett whenever he’s missing. She also sleeps with him and takes care of him. She’s quite the wonder dog, I must say!
